Newborn & infant
Newborn nanny vs. night nanny: what's the difference?
New parents often use the terms interchangeably. They're not the same job.
Newborn nanny (daytime)
A daytime newborn specialist supports the household while you're recovering, feeding, and figuring out life with a new baby. They handle laundry, bottle prep, light meal prep, sibling care, and postpartum errands. They're there when you need a shower, a nap, or a doctor's appointment.
Night nanny
A night nanny takes overnight feedings and settles the baby back to sleep, so you can sleep in 4–6 hour stretches. Some night nannies also support sleep-shaping, establishing day/night rhythms and, later, gentle sleep coaching.
How to choose
If daytime feels chaotic and you can't get anything done, a daytime specialist changes your life. If you're broken from being up every 90 minutes, hire a night nanny. Even two or three nights a week can reset a family.
Many families use both, especially in the first six weeks or with twins. There's no medal for doing it alone.
